What is Downpay?

Downpay is a Shopify app that lets you accept deposits and partial payments from customers. It uses Shopify’s selling plans feature to offer deposit options, payment plans, and pre-order deposits at checkout. When you combine Downpay with Checkout Links, you can create shareable links where the deposit option is already pre-selected—making it easier for customers to commit to high-value purchases without requiring full payment upfront.

How the Integration Works

Checkout Links integrates with Downpay through Shopify’s native selling plans:
  1. Downpay creates selling plans on your products (e.g., “25% deposit”, “50% deposit”)
  2. Checkout Links detects these selling plans when you add products to a link
  3. You select the deposit option for the line item in your checkout link
  4. Customers see the deposit pre-selected when they click your link—no need to choose manually
This integration is automatic—once Downpay is installed and configured, the deposit options appear in Checkout Links.

Prerequisites

Before creating deposit links, you need:

Install Downpay

Install Downpay from the Shopify App Store.

Configure selling plans

In Downpay, set up deposit or payment plan selling plans on the products you want to offer with deposits.
Consult Downpay’s documentation for detailed setup instructions.

Verify selling plans appear

Go to a product in Shopify admin and confirm you see the deposit options in the selling plan selector.
Once Downpay is configured, you’re ready to create deposit links.
