Every link-in-bio tool gives you a URL. Most of them look like this:
linktr.ee/yourstorestan.store/yourstorebeacons.ai/yourstore
These are fine for getting started. But they put someone else’s brand in your link. Every time a customer sees that URL — in your Instagram bio, on your TikTok profile, in an email signature — they see the tool’s domain, not yours.
The fix is a custom URL on your own domain. Instead of linktr.ee/yourstore, your bio link is yourstore.com/bio. Same page, same functionality, but it’s your brand from the first character.
Most link-in-bio tools charge extra for this. Linktree’s custom domain feature requires their $5/month Pro plan. Stan Store locks it behind their $99/month Creator Pro tier. Beacons requires the $10/month Entrepreneur plan.
LinkShop does it for free.
Why Your Bio Link URL Matters
Your bio link is the most-clicked URL your brand owns. It’s in your Instagram bio, your TikTok profile, your Twitter header, your email signature, your packaging inserts. It shows up everywhere.
Trust. A yourstore.myshopify.com/bio or yourstore.com/bio URL signals legitimacy. A third-party domain — especially one the customer doesn’t recognize — adds a moment of hesitation. “Is this really their store?” That hesitation costs clicks.
Brand consistency. If your store is yourstore.com, your bio link should be on that domain. Customers who see yourstore.com/bio know exactly where they’re going. It feels like part of your store because it is part of your store.
Portability. If you switch bio link tools, a third-party URL breaks. Every profile that linked to linktr.ee/yourstore now 404s. A URL on your own domain stays alive forever — you just change what it points to.
SEO. Every link to your bio page from social profiles is a backlink. When that link points to yourstore.com/bio, the SEO value goes to your domain. When it points to linktr.ee/yourstore, Linktree gets the backlink juice, not you.
How LinkShop’s Custom URL Works
LinkShop’s bio page lives at a default path under your Shopify store’s app proxy — something like yourstore.com/a/linkshop. It works, but it’s not memorable. Nobody’s putting /a/linkshop in their Instagram bio.
The custom URL feature lets you set any path you want:
yourstore.com/bioyourstore.com/linksyourstore.com/shopyourstore.com/social
Under the hood, LinkShop creates a Shopify URL redirect from your custom path to the app proxy path. Shopify handles the redirect — it’s fast, invisible to the customer, and doesn’t affect page load time.
Setting It Up
- Open LinkShop in your Shopify admin
- Go to your bio page settings
- Enter your desired URL slug — just the path part, like
bioorlinks - Save
That’s it. LinkShop creates the Shopify redirect automatically. Your bio page is now accessible at yourstore.com/bio (or whatever slug you chose).
No DNS changes. No custom domain purchase. No CNAME records. The URL uses your existing Shopify domain — the same one your store already runs on.
What About Custom Domains?
If your Shopify store uses a custom domain (like yourstore.com instead of yourstore.myshopify.com), the bio page URL uses that domain too. So if your store is coolbrand.com, your bio link becomes coolbrand.com/bio.
This works automatically because Shopify’s URL redirects respect your primary domain. No extra setup.
Choosing the Right Slug
Keep it short and obvious. Your bio link gets typed, copied, spoken aloud, and printed on physical materials. Short paths win.
Good slugs:
/bio— universally understood, 3 characters/links— clear intent, slightly longer/shop— good if your page is product-heavy
Avoid:
/link-in-bio— too long, hyphens are awkward to say aloud/linktree— confusing, it’s not Linktree/social-links— nobody will type this correctly
Test the URL before you put it anywhere permanent. Open an incognito window, type the full URL, and confirm it loads your bio page. Then update your profiles.
Where to Use Your Custom Bio URL
Once your custom URL is set, update it everywhere:
Instagram bio. The most important one. Instagram only gives you one link (unless you have the multi-link feature). Make it yourstore.com/bio.
TikTok bio. Same deal. One link slot. Use your custom URL instead of a third-party link.
Twitter / X bio. The bio link field. Some people also pin a tweet with their bio link — use the custom URL there too.
Email signatures. Add a “Shop our latest” link pointing to your bio page. It’s a lightweight way to drive traffic from every email your team sends.
Packaging inserts. Print the URL on cards inside your packages. yourstore.com/bio is short enough to remember and type. linktr.ee/yourstore isn’t.
QR codes. Generate a QR code for your bio URL. Print it on packaging, business cards, or event materials. The QR code resolves to your domain, which looks more trustworthy than a third-party URL when the customer sees the preview.
How This Compares to Other Bio Link Tools
| Feature | LinkShop | Linktree | Stan Store | Beacons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Custom URL path | Free (all plans) | Pro ($5/mo) | Creator Pro ($99/mo) | Entrepreneur ($10/mo) |
| Uses your Shopify domain | Yes | No (separate domain needed) | No | No |
| DNS setup required | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Products sync from Shopify | Yes | No | No | No |
| Checkout goes to Shopify | Yes | No | No | No |
The difference isn’t just price. Linktree, Stan Store, and Beacons require you to buy a custom domain separately and configure DNS records. You’re pointing a domain at their servers. If you leave the platform, you have to reconfigure DNS.
LinkShop uses your existing Shopify domain. There’s nothing to configure, nothing to maintain, and nothing to migrate if you change tools.
Common Questions
Does the redirect affect page speed?
No. Shopify’s URL redirects are server-side 301 redirects. They add a few milliseconds — imperceptible to the user. The browser follows the redirect before the page starts rendering, so the customer never sees the app proxy URL.
Can I change the slug later?
Yes. Update it in LinkShop settings and the old redirect is replaced with the new one. But if you’ve printed the old URL on packaging or shared it widely, those links will stop working. Pick a slug you’ll keep.
What if the slug is already taken?
If another app or page on your Shopify store uses that path, the redirect won’t work. Shopify won’t override existing routes. Try a different slug — /bio is almost always available.
Does this work with the free version of LinkShop?
Yes. The custom URL feature is available on all plans.
The Bigger Picture
Your bio link is real estate. It appears on every social profile, every email, every piece of packaging. Putting a third-party domain in that spot is free advertising for someone else’s company.
A custom URL on your own domain costs nothing with LinkShop and takes 30 seconds to set up. Your brand stays consistent from the first character of the URL to the checkout button on the page.
If you haven’t changed your bio link from a third-party URL yet, now’s the time. Open LinkShop, set your slug, and update your profiles. The whole thing takes less time than reading this article.
