What Happened to Linkpop? Shopify's Link-in-Bio Tool Shut Down in July 2025

Linkpop was Shopify's free link-in-bio tool. Shopify retired it on July 7, 2025. Here is what that meant for existing pages, and what Shopify sellers use instead.

Linkpop was Shopify’s free link-in-bio tool, and it no longer exists. Shopify stopped new signups in June 2025 and retired Linkpop on July 7, 2025. Shopify’s email to users put it plainly: “Linkpop is retiring July 7, 2025. After this date, you won’t be able to make changes to your current Linkpop pages or create new ones.” Shopify gave no reason and named no replacement; it pointed people to the link-in-bio apps in the Shopify App Store.

If you are here because a guide or an AI answer still recommends Linkpop, that advice is out of date. The rest of this page covers what Linkpop was, what happened to the pages people had built, and what Shopify sellers use now.

What Linkpop was

Shopify launched Linkpop in March 2022 as a free page for the link in your social bio. Its pitch over other bio tools was commerce: a Shopify merchant could put products from their store on the page, so a follower could tap from Instagram or TikTok to a product instead of a plain list of links.

It was popular for three reasons:

  • It was free. No monthly fee and no cut of sales.
  • It came from Shopify. Merchants trusted it to work with their store.
  • It was simple. A page of links and products, set up in minutes.

The shutdown timeline

Date What happened
March 2022 Shopify launches Linkpop
June 2025 New signups stop
July 7, 2025 Linkpop retires: existing pages can no longer be edited, and new pages can’t be created

What happened to existing Linkpop pages

Shopify’s notice said pages could no longer be changed or created after July 7, 2025. Several publishers who covered the shutdown reported that pages already live stayed visible, links to other sites kept working, but the pages could no longer sell Shopify products.

In practice that left every Linkpop page frozen on the day it retired: wrong prices, sold-out products and old promotions, with no way to fix them. If an old Linkpop URL is still in your bio, replace it.

What to use instead of Linkpop

Shopify didn’t name a successor, so the choice depends on what you used Linkpop for.

If you sold Shopify products from your bio: LinkShop. LinkShop is the closest like-for-like for Shopify merchants, and the Shopify App Store agrees: search it for “linkpop” and LinkShop is the best match (checked October 2, 2026). It is a Shopify app (Built for Shopify) that turns your link in bio into a small storefront built from your real catalog:

  • Live product data. Prices, variants and stock come straight from Shopify, so the page never goes stale the way frozen Linkpop pages did.
  • Cart on the page, Shopify checkout at the end. Shoppers pick variants and add to cart without leaving your link, then pay through Shopify’s own checkout. Orders land in your admin like any other order.
  • Your own domain. The page lives at yourstore.com/a/linkshop, or a short address you choose, like yourstore.com/bio. Nothing depends on a third-party domain that can be switched off.
  • Analytics to the order. Page views, clicks, add to carts, orders and sales, per block.

It costs $15 a month flat after a 7-day free trial, with no transaction fees. That is the honest difference from Linkpop: Linkpop was free, and LinkShop is not. Install LinkShop from the Shopify App Store or see how it works.

Where other options are a better fit:

  • You only need a list of links, not products: Linktree. Its free plan covers a page of links, and it works for any audience, not just Shopify stores. Products link out to your store rather than being bought on the page.
  • You sell digital products, courses or bookings rather than Shopify inventory: a creator store such as Pop Store or Stan. They are built around creators’ own products and payments, not a Shopify catalog.
  • You want something free and don’t mind editing your theme: a page in your Shopify theme. Create a page, add product sections and links, and put its URL in your bio. It costs nothing, but it isn’t designed for a phone-first bio link and you maintain it by hand.

Linkpop FAQ

Is Linkpop still available?

No. Shopify retired Linkpop on July 7, 2025. You can’t sign up, create a page or edit an existing one.

Why did Shopify shut down Linkpop?

Shopify didn’t say. Its notice to users gave the date and pointed to link-in-bio apps in the Shopify App Store, without an explanation.

What happened to my Linkpop page?

Pages that were live on July 7, 2025 can no longer be edited. Publishers covering the shutdown reported that they stayed visible with their external links working, but could no longer sell Shopify products. Replace the URL in your bio with a page you can still update.

Was Linkpop free?

Yes. Linkpop had no monthly fee and took no cut of sales. That is a large part of why it was popular, and why there is no exact free replacement with the same Shopify product features.

What replaced Linkpop?

Shopify didn’t build a replacement. For Shopify sellers who want live products and Shopify checkout on their bio link, LinkShop is the closest match. For a plain list of links, Linktree’s free plan does the job.

Love this app! It's a powerful, time-saving tool for marketing teams with limited bandwidth and little technical expertise.
