Configuration

1

Activate the extension

In the Checkout Extensions tab, drag the Checkout Upsells card into either the “Before Reductions” or “After Reductions” target area.
2

Select products

Click “Add Product” and search for products you want to feature. Select specific variants if needed.
Choose products that complement items already in the cart or appeal to your target audience.
3

Set discounts (optional)

For each product, optionally configure a discount:
  • Fixed Percentage - e.g., 20% off
  • Fixed Amount - e.g., $10 off
  • Threshold-based - Unlock discount when cart reaches a value or quantity
Leave discount empty to show products at their regular price.
4

Add headline and description

Write a compelling headline (e.g., “Complete your order”) and optional description to frame your upsell offer.
5

Upload header image (optional)

Add an eye-catching header image above your upsell products to draw attention.
6

Choose display style

Select between:
  • Slider - Horizontal carousel customers can scroll through
  • List - Vertical list showing all products at once
Use a slider for 3+ products to keep the checkout clean. Use a list for 1-2 high-priority items.
7

Configure styling

Toggle the border option on/off to control whether a border appears around the upsell section.

Discount Options

Fixed Percentage Off

Offer a percentage discount on the upsell product. Example: “Add this item for 20% off at checkout!”

Fixed Amount Off

Provide a specific dollar amount discount. Example: “Save $10 when you add this now!”

Threshold-Based Discounts

Unlock the discount when the customer’s cart reaches a certain value or item quantity. Cart Value Threshold:
  • Set minimum cart total (e.g., $50)
  • Discount applies only if cart value exceeds threshold
  • Example: “Your cart qualifies for $15 off this item!”
Quantity Threshold:
  • Set minimum number of items in cart (e.g., 3 items)
  • Discount applies only if cart has enough items
  • Example: “You have 3 items—add this for 25% off!”
Threshold-based discounts create urgency and reward customers who are already making larger purchases.

Best Practices

Choose upsell products that truly complement the cart contents. Customers are more likely to add items that enhance their original purchase.
Keep your product selection focused—3 to 5 well-chosen items perform better than overwhelming customers with too many options.
Use action-oriented headlines like “Complete your order” or “Don’t forget these essentials” rather than generic text.
Avoid showing products the customer already has in their cart. The extension automatically hides items already added.

How Customers Experience It

  1. Customer reaches checkout and sees your headline and optional header image
  2. Product recommendations appear in a slider or list with images, pricing, and discount badges
  3. Customer clicks “Add” on any product they want
  4. The item is added to their checkout order instantly
  5. Order total updates to reflect the addition
  6. Customer completes their enhanced purchase
Checkout Upsells are most effective when they solve a problem or add clear value to the original purchase. Think “batteries for the toy” or “matching accessories for the outfit.”
