A storefront link builds the cart for the customer and then drops them on your store rather than straight into checkout. They arrive on your homepage, or wherever you point the link, with the products already in the cart and the promotion already applied.
It’s the middle ground between a checkout link and a popup link. A checkout link is the shortest path to a paid order. A storefront link keeps the offer live while the customer browses, so they can add more before they check out.
When to use one
Pick a storefront link when browsing is part of the point:
- A sale or a collection launch. The discount applies while they look around, so a bigger basket is possible.
- A creator or affiliate offer. The creator’s discount stays active across your whole store, not just on the one product they talked about.
- Anything where the customer will want to add more. Bundles, refills, “and one for a friend”.
Pick a checkout link instead when the decision is already made and every extra click costs you the order — an abandoned cart recovery email, for example.
What the customer experiences
- They click your link.
- Checkout Links builds the cart in the background — products, quantities, variants and the promotion.
- They land on your store with that cart already waiting.
- They browse, add anything else they want, and check out from your store as normal.
Their cart shows your discounted prices throughout, so the offer is visible the whole time rather than appearing at the last step.
What you need
Storefront links work on any Shopify plan and need no theme code. To show discount badges and progress messages in the cart, turn on the Checkout Links app embed in your theme — see Set up the storefront app embed.
